Ralph Lauren founded his fashion house in New York in 1967, starting with a line of men's neckties before building the Polo Ralph Lauren brand into one of American fashion's defining "lifestyle" labels. In 1978, Ralph Lauren became the first designer to launch a men's and women's fragrance simultaneously — Polo, created by Carlos Benaïm, and Lauren — both instant classics. The house has since built out an extensive fragrance wardrobe, including Polo Sport (1993), Romance, and Ralph's Club, in continued partnership with L'Oréal.
