Liz Claiborne founded her eponymous fashion company in New York in 1976 with her husband Art Ortenberg and business partners Leonard Boxer and Jerome Chazen, building a career on stylish, affordable separates for working women. The company became the first founded by a woman to reach the Fortune 500. Its first fragrance, Liz Claiborne for Women — housed in a distinctive triangle bottle — launched in 1986, followed by the men's scent Claiborne in 1989. The fragrance rights, including the Curve and Realities lines, were later acquired by Elizabeth Arden.
