Hermès was founded in Paris in 1837 by Thierry Hermès as a harness workshop serving European nobility, later growing into the leather goods and fashion house behind the Kelly and Birkin bags. Hermès entered fragrance in 1951 with Eau d'Hermès, composed by Edmond Roudnitska, followed by the women's classic Calèche in 1961 and 24 Faubourg in 1995, named for the house's Paris flagship address. Jean-Claude Ellena became the house's exclusive in-house perfumer in 2004, shaping modern icons with his signature transparent, natural style.
