Elizabeth Arden was founded in 1910 by Canadian-American businesswoman Florence Nightingale Graham, who opened her first Red Door salon on Fifth Avenue in New York and took the professional name Elizabeth Arden. A pioneer of modern skincare and the "makeover" concept, she launched her first fragrance, Blue Grass, in 1934 — one of the earliest scents created by a beauty company. Her signature Red Door fragrance followed in 1989, named for the salons' iconic red doors, and the house has since built out popular lines like 5th Avenue, Green Tea, and Sunflowers.
