The Davidoff luxury goods brand was founded in Basel, Switzerland, in 1980 by Zino Davidoff, a Ukrainian-Jewish immigrant who first built his name in fine cigars. Davidoff launched its first fragrance in 1984, but it was Cool Water in 1988 — created by perfumer Pierre Bourdon — that redefined men's perfumery with its fresh, aquatic profile and became one of the best-selling men's fragrances of all time. Davidoff fragrances are produced under license by Coty.
