Alfred Sung, born in Shanghai and raised in Hong Kong, studied couture in Paris before launching his eponymous Canadian fashion label in 1980 with Joseph and Saul Mimran, becoming known as Canada's "King of Fashion" for minimalist, elegant ready-to-wear. In 1986 the brand launched its first fragrance, "Sung" Alfred Sung, developed over three years with Givaudan — it became the best-selling fragrance in Canada that year and remains available decades later, followed by scents like Forever and Shi.
